The communities in and around Hwange National Park are totally reliant in the dry season on diesel-driven boreholes for water – but solar-power offers a sustainable alternative.

Mambanje is an impoverished community, located outside of Dete near Hwange National Park. The road to Mambanje is so run down it takes over an hour to travel the 15km from Dete to get there. The community is completely reliant on a diesel-driven borehole for water, but due to the costs involved and lack of funding, it faces a critical situation every dry season.

The development of solar boreholes, like the one at Mambanje, offer a sustainable alternative to diesel-driven boreholes. Not only will the long-term costs be less, but solar-power provides a more natural power source that will have minimal impact on the environment and which contributes zero noise pollution in Hwange’s pristine wild life areas. Unfortunately the short-term costs of solar boreholes is high – we need your help to raise the necessary funds.
