Mambanje Primary School is a very remote school, located outside of Dete near Hwange National Park.

The road to Mambanje is so run down it takes over an hour to travel the 15km from Dete to get there. The community relies mainly on subsistence farming, which is not a very reliable or profitable income, making the funding for education of the community’s children hard to come by.

The HIV/AIDS virus epidemic has hit the community hard, and there are many orphaned children who need help with school fees in order to attend school. The Foundation supports 79 orphans and vulnerable children at the school, where the parents and guardians are unable to raise the US$18 fee per term or US$54 per year school fee per child. We also provide the salary for one additional teacher at $350 a month and again the community match that and also fund their own additional teacher.

The Foundation fundraises for uniforms and second-hand clothes for these children, and through partners such as ‘Pack for a Purpose’ guests coming to camps in the area are encouraged to bring stationary, books, pens, pencils, art materials and sporting equipment which greatly benefit the school.

The Foundation also assists the school with their own fundraising events, helping to provide additional teachers so that each class has its own teacher.
