Rainbow Blaze Marimba Band’s soul is heard when they play their memorable tunes, it lives –in the past, now and the future, appealing to all ages and cutting through genres. Its members are from Tshabalala, Bulawayo and it is one of the best Marimba Bands to come out of Zimbabwe.

In 2007 Paul Mpofu, who has had a love for Marimba music from early childhood, formed a group called Umchilo Wamakhosi Marimba band. With the help of the Bulawayo City Council they started performing at various events and at weddings. On 11 August 2007 they changed the name from Umchilo Wamakhosi which means Rainbow and they now call it RAINBOW BLAZE MARIMBA BAND. The reason for this change was that they play different types of music for all races and tribes.

Rainbow Blaze has performed in a lot of National events and they reached the finals of music cross roads and won a recording deal; they have also performed in many festivals in Zimbabwe such as Ibumba International Festival, Umthwakazi Arts Festival, Intwasa Festival, Isigodlo Festival and the Bulawayo Festival to name a few.

TEACHING AND WORKSHOPS

It has always been part of Paul Mpofu’s dream to teach marimba and this dream has been achieved by doing workshops in schools, institutions and churches since 2010. The vision of the School Program is to empower school children with professional music skills and to create employment opportunities. Since they started this program they have managed to network children from across Zimbabwe as they meet in competitions and concerts and at this point in time they work with 170 children from 11 schools.

In 2013 they teamed up with African Bush Camps Foundation and did two Workshops at Hwange Main Camp Primary with the students and they played at the 2013 Mambanje Prize Giving at Mambanje Primary School.

Since September 2013, the African Bush Camps Foundation has been sponsoring Rainbow Blaze’s school program, going into 10 school’s being; – Mahlabezulu, Masuku, Maphisa, Mgoqo, Sigombe, Carmel, Main Camp, Our Lady of  Assumption Catholic Mission, C.B.C and Marula Government Primary School. Teaching the children Marimba’s and for the first time giving them access to music lessons.

Its marimba power, it’s the musical fire. This is the spirit of Rainbow Blaze, and you are going to feel it every time they play.
