On 10 June, teams across African Bush Camps Experiences came together to celebrate Active Day 2026, a day dedicated to movement, connection and paying it forward.
Held in honor of African Bush Camps Foundation’s 20-year milestone, Active Day brought together our people, guests, partners and local communities in celebration of the shared purpose that connects us all.
Across Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, guests joined Active Day activities and generously supported the Foundation’s work.
Together, we raised USD 10,650, helping to strengthen communities, conserve wildlife and create lasting impact.
From our camps to our Head Office in Cape Town, every team embraced Active Day in their own unique way. Whether through guest activities, community outreach or acts of giving, the day reflected the spirit of African Bush Camps and the Foundation, bringing people together to create meaningful impact.
Giving Back Through Community
As part of Active Day, our Maun team partnered with Bana Ba Letsatsi, a community organization supporting vulnerable children and at-risk youth through counselling, education, early childhood development and family support.
Each staff member became a “big brother” or “big sister” to two children, purchasing gifts based on individual wish lists. From warm blankets and winter clothing to toys and toiletries, the gifts reflected the children’s unique needs and wishes. Together, staff contributed more than BWP 10,000 from their own pockets.
The team also took part in a community litter clean-up before spending time reading with young learners, supporting the feeding program and connecting with the children. It was a meaningful reminder that creating impact starts with showing up for the communities around us.
Connecting Guests to Purpose
Across Thorntree River Lodge and Lolebezi, guests and staff came together through a blend of movement, wellness and storytelling.
From aerobics sessions and trail runs to tug of war and fireside storytelling, guests embraced the opportunity to connect with the people and purpose behind the Foundation. These shared experiences offered a meaningful glimpse into our work while celebrating the landscapes, wildlife and communities that make Zambia so special.
Learning Through Community
At Bumi Hills, Active Day gave staff the opportunity to experience the Foundation’s work firsthand while spending time with the communities they serve.
The team visited Foundation projects at Mangwara Primary School and a local predator BOMA initiative before joining learners in games, singing, dancing and face painting. For many newer team members, the day provided valuable insight into the Foundation’s work, strengthening their role as ambassadors for the communities and landscapes they help support.
A Morning of Purpose in Cape Town
In Cape Town, Foundation impact partners and staff came together for a morning of collaboration and movement, culminating in a vibrant gumboot dance honoring African culture, rhythm and community spirit.
Following the event, all of the gumboots were donated to Haven Night Shelter and Ons Plek Children’s Home, where they will be distributed to individuals in need throughout the winter months.
