Discovering Talents, Developing Skills, Defining Futures

On 4 September 2026, 313 Standard 7 learners from across Maun gathered at Potential Gardens in Disaneng for the 3rd Annual Maun Career Fair.

The Career Fair creates a space for young people to look beyond the classroom and begin thinking about what comes next by meeting professionals, exploring different career paths and learning more about the skills and opportunities available to them.

For many young people, knowing what career you might want is only the beginning. Having access to information and experiences that can help you understand how to get there can be just as important.

Creating space to explore what is possible

This year’s Career Fair brought together learners from Khwai Primary, Kgosietsile Primary, Sankoyo Primary, Matsaudi Primary, Sexaxa Primary, Matlapana Primary and Bana Ba Letsatsi, alongside selected learners from Moeti Junior School and Maun Senior School of Tourism.

Under the theme “Discovering Talents, Developing Skills, Defining Futures: Bridging Education and Opportunity,” learners were encouraged to think about their own talents, interests and aspirations, and what it might take to turn those aspirations into futures.

A creative competition formed an important part of the day, with learners participating in Essay, Speech, Project and Presentation categories. Each gave them a different way to explore their talents, consider their future careers and express their ideas.

Connecting learners with the world of work

Businesses, government institutions, community organizations and educational institutions hosted information stalls, giving learners the opportunity to speak with professionals and gain first-hand insight into different career and education pathways.

Participating organizations included Sense of Africa, Maun Education Region, Northwest District Council, FNB, MRI, Bomaid, African Bush Camps, Tiles Botswana, Re Jala Peo, Doctors Inn, Maun Senior School of Tourism, Friends of Photography and SAVE Botswana.

The event also welcomed Tumo Monnatsile, the 2025 Essay Competition winner, as a guest speaker. Having previously participated in the Career Fair himself, Tumo was able to share his experience with this year’s learners.

A growing platform for opportunity

Since its launch, the Maun Career Fair has continued to grow:

2024 — 100 learners
2025 — 250 learners
2026 — 313 learners

This growth reflects the continued involvement of schools, businesses, organizations and community partners, while highlighting the importance of creating opportunities for young people to access career mentorship and practical exposure.

The 2026 event was supported by De Egg Lovers, Beef Boys, Mr Veg, Buy & Build and Wilderness Air, with teams from Atzaró Okavango Camp, Khwai Leadwood and Khwai Lediba providing logistical support.

Creating opportunity, together

For African Bush Camps Foundation, creating opportunity is about more than access to education alone. It is about connecting young people with the people, information and experiences that can help them recognise their potential and make decisions about their futures.

The Maun Career Fair reflects this approach by bringing different parts of the community together around a shared goal: creating greater access to opportunity for young people.

Discovering talents. Developing skills. Defining futures.

And, most importantly, helping young people see that their future is theirs to shape.
