March 30, 2019 @ 6:30 am – 9:30 am
Starting Point: Detema Secondary School

This annual event has become a highly valuable opportunity for community members in the Dete area, on the border of Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, to work together and collaborate in organising an event purposefully committed to healthy fun. Fully supported and funded by the Jane Bubear Sports Foundation, these events promote a powerful ethos of “community” in a remote area hard hit by drought and poverty, often resulting in a degrading of cohesive land management and cooperative community initiatives.

The theme for the 2019 event is “Network Building Through Sport”

Being located next to, and intrinsically connected, to Zimbabwe’s largest protected wildlife area, it is important for communities in the area to realise value by fostering a notion of care for the natural resources and wildlife in this particularly vulnerable ecological area. By directly linking benefits to tourism these communities learn to positively value wildlife and nature as resources for improving their well being.
