Focus Area: Community Empowerment
We aim to give people the opportunity to thrive through their chosen crafts, using their existing talents and skills as well as to address critical gaps like accessing health care and employment to achieve a higher quality of life. The Foundation’s Income Generation Projects stem from expertise within the community and are nurtured and developed locally.
Communities are encouraged to train and support each other through capacity building- eliminating the need for highly paid specialists or staff. This allows for communities to have sole ownership of micro financed projects, making them self-sustaining and independent, whilst also promoting community spirit.
The Foundation uses the programmes as a platform to provide business training, entrepreneurial skills, money management as well as to offer ongoing mentorship. With improved knowledge comes the ability and motivation to support oneself and one’s family. Doing so sustainably will also have positive long-term effects on the economic state of rural communities.
The Foundation further supports income generation groups by giving them access to larger markets, enabling individuals to support and uplift their communities. This encouragement can also come about through projects where the Foundation has been able to assist in the construction of facilities needed for essential services.
In this way, we hope to work towards the sustainable development of these communities by helping the people have a higher quality of life.
