Get Involved
We encourage you to engage with us on a real and meaningful level. We want you to have the opportunity to choose the project you wish to support and enjoy information and interaction on its progress.
If you want to go fast, go alone,
if you want to go far, go together
This African Proverb highlights our belief in partnerships with community members, individuals, families and groups to achieve our goals; that together we can make a long-term positive impact.
Here are some ways to get involved with the African Bush Camps Foundation:
Donate

While empowering communities and their members to have ownership for their wellbeing, the implementation of many projects also require funding for which we rely on donations to make possible.
You can make a general donation and we will use it where most needed at the time, as each region and community has focus areas we fundraise towards, based on holistic and collaborative needs assessments we continually carry out with the communities. We make sure that the most urgent needs are met with long term sustainable outcomes.
Through our partnership with African Bush Camps, each and every bed night in any of their camps donates US$10 to the African Bush Camps Foundation covering our administrative overheads, allowing us to make sure that 100% of all donations goes directly towards the project it is intended for.

Support a Project

We invite you to join us on our journey to make a positive impact on the communities we work with and to support a specific project or area which interests you. It is our goal that the funding and support you provide has meaning for all involved and you are as personally involved as you wish. As our administration costs are covered by African Bush Camps, any support you give towards a particular area, need, child or project will go directly towards that cause. We welcome and encourage your interaction with your project of interest and support and will provide regular updates.
Please read about the focus areas which are currently seeking support or otherwise contact us to discuss particular areas of interest you would like to receive further information on. Our interaction falls under our four pillars of work, including education, community empowerment, community infrastructure and conservation. Some specific projects which you can get more involved in, through either one-off or ongoing support are; primary or secondary school scholarships, providing sponsorship for a teacher, fund primary school textbook provision, providing start-up capital for an income generating project, fund a Lion Guardian’s salary, sponsor the Cattle Health Initiative, infrastructure support for schools with buildings, furniture, equipping of libraries and science labs, solar power at remote schools, skills workshops for permaculture, rocket fuel stove workshops, sanitary pad making workshops or life skills workshops for a class or a school.

Attend an Event

We support and organize community events to promote a sense of togetherness and provide positive outlets for people to come together and have fun in areas which are often faced with geographic and economic challenges. We welcome you to attend an event, whether a fun run, soccer tournament, tree planting, skill enhancing or environmental awareness and share the celebration of culture and talents where the benefits to all involved reach far beyond the actual day.
Some annual events you are warmly invited to attend are, the annual 10km Dete (Zimbabwe) and Chobe (Botswana) Big Runs held in April of every year. World environment day, 5th of June held with the Dete schools annually, where we address current environmental issues and includes tree planting at a chosen school. The Botswana independence soccer tournament held on Botswana Independence Day in Chobe and Khwai brings lots of competitive spirit with it each year. We celebrate World Aids Day and National Tree planting Day as a joint day early December, before the school’s close for the year. Other one-off sporting and community events are also held and you can keep an eye on our upcoming events page or contact us for further information on these.
Community Visit

Some of the African Bush Camps properties, like Linyanti Bush Camp, are located several hours drive on bush roads from the nearest communities, however some camps are in closer vicinity to villages and projects we partner with and there is an opportunity while on safari to spend anywhere from a few hours to a full day visiting the projects and seeing the work we do first hand. This is an exchange which can enrich the lives of all involved and allows you to have a deeper understanding of the complexities and challenges many people face on a daily basis. Should you wish you bring practical items to donate with you, we invite you to visit the specific camps Pack for a Purpose page for their current needs or you can contact us for more specific items relevant to the community and its current needs that can make a meaningful impact; from sporting goods to sewing materials. Your visit to the income generating projects allows them to showcase their skills and you also have the opportunity to purchase their creations.
Connecting Classrooms

Connecting Classrooms partners a classroom full of students in one of the schools we support to another class or school elsewhere in the World.
Our aim is to assist and encourage lasting and supporting partnerships between teachers and pupils throughout the world, sharing diverse backgrounds, creating awareness and understanding of their different cultures in the growing global community we live in. Please contact us for more information should your class or school wish to partner with one of the schools we work with.

Pack For a Purpose

We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travellers to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you have just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and take supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of local children and families.
Often items such as stationary or solar lamps are cheaper to purchase locally and can assist in supporting local industries and a lot of reading, reference and text books are specific to the local curriculum and therefore we can purchase these locally and have them on hand for your visit for you to personally gift.
You can find specific items required for the projects and schools in an area surrounding the camps you will visit on that camp’s specific page under the Pack for a Purpose website, otherwise please contact us for further information. Current live pages are for African Bush Camps Somalisa Camps, Bumi Hills Safari Lodge (Zimbabwe), Thorntree River Lodge (Zambia) and Linyanti Camps (Botswana).
