The day started off with a cracker of a football match which featured Sango Swallows and Khwai Football Club, both local teams. Khwai Football Club managed to win the match by 3 goals to 2 and walked away with the African Bush Camps Independence trophy. Both teams were very excited to also receive a new football kit, that was worn with pride. The awards for “Man of the Match”and “Most promising player” were won by team members of Sango Swallows while “Goalkeeper of the Match was awarded to a Khwai Football Club team member.
Amongst the large turnout of around 240 people, were the 83 children who are registered to join the pre-school that African Bush Camps Foundation is currently planning on setting up. In addition to the sports, guests and staff of Khwai Tented Camp were in for a very special treat, as an elderly group of San Bushmen came together and did an ethnic dancing show during their high tea in the afternoon. It was thoroughly enjoyed and a high light of the guests stay. Arnold the manager of Khwai Tented Camp concluded with a speech in which he reviewed Botswana’s recent history.
